Bathroom remodel

Cosmetic, mid-range, or full gut, with each line you can turn off.

A bathroom budget depends more on how far you open the walls than on the faucet. Cosmetic keeps the layout and the surround: paint, a vanity, a toilet, a light, the floor, and a small reglaze allowance. A mid-range job retiles the wet area in place and does not move the drains. Full gut goes to the studs, can move plumbing, and waterproofs before the new tile.

A half bath drops the shower and tub lines. A standard bath is about 5 by 8, and the line prices are written for that room. A primary bath scales the finish lines up. A toilet moves less than the tile.

Uncheck any line you will skip. Labor is the crew, not your Saturday, and you can turn it off. Low and high widen the same checked scope for a cheaper metro or a busier city. They are not three different projects. A custom primary suite can pass the high column. These are 2026 US national averages, and design fees are not included.

Worked example

The page opens on a mid-range remodel of a standard bath, about 5 by 8, with every line checked and labor on. The layout stays. The wet area is retiled. The drains do not move.

The tile surround alone is $6,150 on the typical column before the low and high spread. The full typical total is $20,820: $7,970 of materials and $12,850 of labor. Low is $15,468 and high is $30,018.

Switch to cosmetic and the surround lines disappear in favor of a reglaze allowance, so the total falls hard. Switch to full gut and rough plumbing shows up. Choose a half bath and the shower lines drop off. Uncheck any line you are keeping.
