Exterior
Fence
Linear feet, wood or vinyl or chain-link, and walk or drive gates.
Enter the run in feet, not in sections. Wood and vinyl are priced as a 6-foot privacy fence. Chain-link is 4-foot galvanized, not black coated. The per-foot rate includes posts about every 8 feet, rails or mesh, and concrete to set the posts.
Gates are priced each, on top of the run. Do not put a gate opening in the linear feet and then count the gate again. A walk gate is about 4 feet. A drive gate is one 10-foot panel. Count two drive gates for a double opening.
Wood is pressure-treated privacy board, not a clear-cedar custom fence. Vinyl is a common hollow panel. Labor assumes level ground a crew can dig. Rock, steep slopes, permit fees, and removal of an old fence are not included. If posts have to be pulled and hauled, add that before you compare a quote with this range. Worked example
The page opens on 120 linear feet of 6-foot wood privacy fence and one 4-foot walk gate. The gate is not inside the 120 feet. Posts, pickets, and concrete are inside the per-foot rate. The gate is its own line.
The typical total with labor is $5,570: $3,170 of materials and $2,400 of labor. Low is $3,720 and high is $8,240.
Add a drive gate if the run includes a 10-foot opening, and do not also leave those 10 feet in the linear-foot count. Switch to vinyl or chain-link to see the same run at the other two material rates.
